Fiona Kinsman and the Team

Fiona Kinsman
I started 627 Transfer and am the principal deliverer of the sessions and workshops. I left my job in the business training sector when I started a family and soon found how much satisfaction I could get from helping children to reach their potential.

I have worked in schools since 1998 and I have extensive experience helping vulnerable children transfer to secondary school. I was a founder and highly regarded member of the Buckinghamshire Transfer Support Team for nine years, supporting children from Year 6 to Year 7. I have helped over 3500 children and worked with over 100 primary and secondary schools (state and independent), building good working relationships and establishing an extensive network of contacts in schools across Bucks, Berks, Herts and beyond.

I am a qualified HLTA and have led whole class circle times on secondary transfer for Year 6 in a wide range of primary schools around Buckinghamshire. I have also worked in primary and secondary classrooms as a Teaching Assistant and a PRU Outreach Support Specialist, and supported children with a range of difficulties and needs.

I have always been interested in people – why they behave in certain ways – why they do certain things – what makes each individual unique and what makes them ‘tick’. I am a strong believer that everyone has the ability to be a highly remarkable person. For each person, how to get there is different – just as each snowflake has a shape all its own.

My working background includes many years of running my own business whilst raising two lovely daughters and, more recently, working within an agency that supports vulnerable teenagers and adults. I have recently gained a Level 4 Diploma in Counselling and Psychotherapy.

Both my daughters have been through the transition to secondary school and I know how difficult that experience can be, so I am thrilled to be given the opportunity to work with 627 Transfer.  To be able to help and support children build on their strengths and skills is so important, because each personality, passion and priority can illuminate that special quality in a child to make them remarkable.

I have 13 years’ experience of working with children, having gone straight into my first childcare job after leaving school. I strive to give the children in my care confidence in everything they do and intend to do the same for the children under my supervision with 627 Transfer. I am willing to go above and beyond to ensure the children I work with develop to their full potential.

I have level 3 qualifications in Child Psychology and Childcare and Education. I'm always looking to improve my own skills and techniques and am currently studying to gain my higher level teaching assistant level 4 qualification. I'm passionate about what I do which reflects on my work and again onto the children.

I have been working with children and young people for the last 35 years. My career has taken me from working in the private sector as a Day Nursery Manager, to my work today as a Private Nanny for two children, together with my work with parents and families, where I open up conversations to build more balanced healthy relationships, where children feel secure and parents empowered.

I have an 'NNEB' childcare qualification, a 'Level 5 Diploma in Performance Coaching with NLP', and training in counselling skills. My strength lies in building a trusting and supportive environment in which children can grow to become the best versions of themselves. I am pleased to join the 627 Transfer team, as I am passionate about offering children and young people a space where they can be honest and open, feeling listened to and able to make changes in their lives which allow them to flourish

I am delighted to be joining the 627 Transfer team.  As a qualified counsellor working both with primary and secondary aged children, I can see how significant the move can be for many reaching this stage in their lives.

When working therapeutically with young people it is so beneficial to have a safe space where they can explore and gain a deeper understanding of their feelings. The 627 Transfer programme supports this fundamental need all of us have, which is why I’m so pleased to be part of the team. I believe that working in small welcoming groups can be helpful to see you are not alone in your thoughts and feelings, and that working collectively can increase our sense of wellbeing and confidence when approaching change.

I have worked in both primary and secondary schools for the past 11 years. In addition to my work with 627 Transfer, I am a qualified counsellor currently working in a secondary school as a School Counsellor supporting young people with difficulties that they may be facing.

What inspires me most about my role is seeing how young people who are given the right support and resources are then able to overcome challenging circumstances, build resilience and ultimately thrive.

I am delighted to be working with 627 Transfer, supporting children during this period of change, helping them to build the necessary skills to make the transition a positive experience for them.
